Times have changed. We love to read, but nothing is as annoying as trying to read something longer than a blog post while staring at a computer screen with a hundred windows open.
So now we have "e-readers," which includes not just Kindles and Nooks and the like, but also our telephones. (Waking up fifty years later, Mortimer wondered why telephones would be used for reading. Would books be used for flying?) Maybe next year you'll continue reading your favorite novel with the words splashed across your TV screen, or projected onto your bedroom ceiling. Whatever the medium, we will continue to need, and to read, longform writing.
Anyway, to help you along, I've begun making key essays of mine from over the years available on all the major e-reader formats, including Kindle and ePub. Take a look at the first three now.
Over the next few weeks I'll be experimenting with pricing. Let me know what you think!
Dear Dr. David:
Although, I am one of the cheapest people alive; and actually proud of it, I would like a way to get most stuff free if it is passable, but I understand and approve of you doing what ever is required to make a living as a writer.
This is actually a good idea and you should expand on it to the fullest extent.
Hopefully you will put enough aside to put the kids through college.
Note: You five year old; who is by now most like 7, appears to be smart enough to get a free ride through Harvard or Yale by the time she get to the old age of 12.
